Lucas recently joined the Fietshangar team as Project Coordinator. We sat down with him to find out a bit more about the person behind the role.

Hi Lucas! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how you ended up at Fietshangar?
Hi! I'm Lucas and my background combines Business Administration from RSM in Rotterdam with a Journalism & New Media minor from Leiden. What drew me to Fietshangar was the mix of office work and being out in the field, combined with a product I genuinely believe in. Sustainable, secure, and built to last: it just felt like the right fit.
What surprised you most in your first days here?
More than I expected, actually! The number of external factors involved in a single project was an eye-opener. There are a lot of moving parts and stakeholders, and I keep discovering new connections I hadn't anticipated. The team itself was a pleasant surprise too: informal and approachable, but at the same time very focused and driven.

Fietshangar is growing internationally. What does that mean for your role?
Every country has its own way of working and its own requirements, which adds a great layer of complexity. I'm excited to dive into those different cultures and working styles, and to help make our processes more scalable as we grow. The big international projects are definitely what I'm most looking forward to.
Here's a personal one: are you actually a cyclist yourself?
Absolutely. I use my bike for everything in the city, and I also have a road bike for longer rides. I've already cycled from Rotterdam to Gothenburg, and I'm currently planning a north-to-south route through England. Safe to say, I know first-hand why good bike storage matters, my bike has been stolen in Rotterdam twice.
Something that wouldn't show up on your CV?
I love cooking, properly cooking, not just throwing something together. I'd actually like to run my own food or hospitality business one day. So if there's ever a Fietshangar team dinner, I'm volunteering.
