Continuing Rotterdam's cycling commitment

Rotterdam has awarded Fietshangar a new tender to replace ageing units and competitor products across the city, further cementing the city's commitment to safe, accessible cycling. It is a vote of confidence from one of the Netherlands' largest municipalities, and we look forward to further collaboration in the future.

This latest contract builds on almost 30 years of partnership with Rotterdam, where around Fietshangars are a common sight across the city's neighbourhoods. Assembly continues with assistance by Rotterdam Inclusief, the municipality's work development company, keeping the project circular, social, and local from start to finish.

Anti-graffiti/anti-sticker coating

We are expanding our powder coating offer to include anti-graffiti and anti-sticker finishes for customers who need them. The coating is a polyurethane-based exterior-grade finish, available in any RAL colour. It carries the same corrosion resistance as our standard finish with the added benefit that spray paint, permanent markers, stickers and wax-based markings can be removed with a cloth and standard cleaning agents, leaving the surface intact.

This makes it a practical choice for high-footfall locations where vandalism is a realistic concern. The coating is rated for multiple cleaning cycles, so a unit that gets tagged doesn't need to be replaced or repainted. For municipalities and housing associations managing units across a wide area, that means lower maintenance costs and a longer effective lifespan from each installation.

The Fietshangar team is growing

In March we also welcomed Lucas Vriens to the team. He brings a background in business and journalism, a road bike he's ridden all the way to Gothenburg, and two bikes stolen that taught him exactly why good bike storage matters.

To find out how he's been finding the first few weeks at Fietshangar, we sat down with him and asked all the big questions: Meet Lucas – Our New Project Coordinator
