Helping refugees through cycling

In June, we installed a second bike locker unit for VluchtelingenWerk Nederland, a national organization supporting refugees as they build a new life in the Netherlands. In Leidschendam, dedicated instructors teach newcomers how to cycle — a key step towards independence in Dutch daily life. With the program expanding and more bikes in use, the new secure storage hangar now keeps their growing fleet safe and accessible.

Conferences & exhibitions across Europe

From Velo-city in Gdańsk to UITP Summit Hamburg and EUROBIKE in Frankfurt, Fietshangar has been on the move this summer. At EUROBIKE we showcased how our secure bike lockers comfortably fit everything from standard bikes to e-bikes equipped with wireless charging kickstand sytems. These events offered great conversations, fresh ideas, and a shared vision for safer, more convenient bike storage in cities across Europe.

Meet Ed: From the Outback to Amsterdam

When Ed Spiller (28) decided to leave Australia, it wasn’t a rash decision. “I wanted something different in my life, to see something of the world,” he recalls. “Australia is beautiful, but also very isolated.” Amsterdam provided the change he was looking for. “It is an international city with a rich history, excellent public transport and of course endless cycling possibilities with a great infrastructure. I feel at home here.”

Ed is excited to grow Fietshangar and create more lveable cities.

At Fietshangar, Ed brings together his love of cycling. “The characteristic Fietshangar parking modules are robust, lockable and stylish. They are increasingly appearing in the streets of the Netherlands.” Now involved as a project manager, Ed plays a central role in shaping Fietshangar’s international profile. “The new website is live and we have ambitions to grow internationally,” he explains.

But the mission goes deeper than expansion. “It is special to contribute to a product that is not only practical, but also helps to make cities more liveable. Cycling contributes to a sustainable society. The Netherlands is a top example of this, and it is great that I’m able to promote that vision internationally.”
