Why most outdoor storage falls short on security
Security is the primary concern for anyone storing a bike outdoors, particularly with the rising value of e-bikes and high-end road bikes. Not all outdoor storage is equal, and the gap between a covered rack and a certified secure hangar is significant.
Open racks and basic shelters offer no real protection. A locked bike on a rack can be removed in seconds with the right tools. Weather protection does not mean theft protection, and most products marketed as secure carry no independent verification of that claim.
What independent certification means
Fietshangar is currently the only outdoor bike storage product with SKG-IKOB anti-theft certification (KE 470) and the Dutch Police Keurmerk. These are independently verified standards requiring physical testing against defined attack scenarios. They are not self-declared and cannot be purchased.
The security is built into the construction: a hot-dip galvanised steel frame, a certified 2-point locking system available in mechanical or digital versions, and solid panel options that prevent visual access to the bikes inside.
