SKG-IKOB certification for bike storage: what it means and why it matters

What SKG-IKOB certification is
SKG-IKOB is an independent Dutch certification body that tests and certifies building products for security, quality, and sustainability. For bike storage, the KE 470 standard means a product has been independently tested for resistance to forced entry and anti-theft performance.
This matters because most bike storage products make security claims without any independent verification. A product described as secure or anti-theft by its manufacturer may have no certification to back that up. SKG-IKOB certification requires physical testing against defined attack scenarios. It is not self-declared and cannot be purchased.

Why it matters for procurement
Fietshangar is currently the only outdoor bike storage product to carry SKG-IKOB KE 470 certification alongside the Dutch Police Keurmerk. Dutch municipalities increasingly specify these certifications when tendering for residential bike parking, as they provide a legally defensible security standard.
For public procurement, the absence of independent certification often disqualifies products from consideration entirely, regardless of their other qualities. Buyers comparing products should treat the absence of certification as a meaningful data point, not just a technicality.
