Rotterdam's bike hangar programme


Rotterdam has one of the most extensive residential bike hangar programmes in Europe, with over 1,100 secure bike storage units deployed across the city. It is a widely referenced benchmark for other cities developing their own programmes.

What Rotterdam uses and why


The Rotterdam programme uses both the Fietshangar 1.8 and the Fietshangar 2.5. Units are installed on residential streets, often replacing one or two car parking spaces, and managed by the municipality. Fietshangar is the only outdoor bike storage product with SKG-IKOB anti-theft certification (KE 470) and the Dutch Police Keurmerk, two standards Dutch municipalities increasingly require in public procurement.

Developing a similar programme


Other Dutch cities including Utrecht and Den Haag also use Fietshangars in their municipal programmes. Internationally, the product is deployed in Ireland, Italy, Germany, the UK, Belgium, and Norway.
