New York City will launch the nation’s largest secure bike-parking program, rolling out 500 weather-protected, app-accessible units across all boroughs. The five-year plan aims to curb theft, support growing ridership, and set a new standard for safe, accessible urban bike storage.

Scandicci is piloting ten Fietshangar units, Italy’s first shared, neighbourhood bike parking. Each smart locker stores 6 bikes and is accessible via the Biclò app, offering secure, weather-protected storage. This initiative, in collaboration with Fondazione CR Firenze, LegaCoop, and Biclò, showcases how municipalities can make everyday cycling easier and more sustainable.

Fietshangar’s new sidepanels, available in perforated and closed versions, enhance security, flexibility, and customisation. Closed panels conceal bikes and allow RAL-colour branding. Expanding internationally, units are now in Italy and Reykjavík, combining durable design with app-based, secure access.

A bike locker is a secure, enclosed space specifically designed to store bicycles. Typically made from durable materials like metal, bike lockers come equipped with locking mechanisms to keep your bike secure. You can find lockers in various locations, such as public transport hubs, workplaces, and residential areas.

Bicycle theft is a constant challenge in the Netherlands, where cycling is a way of life. Simple locks and high demand make bikes easy targets, but secure neighborhood storage and bike lockers help protect them, allowing cyclists to enjoy their freedom without worry.

Fietshangar is making cities more liveable through cycling. This summer we installed bike lockers for VluchtelingenWerk Nederland, helping refugees gain independence, and showcased our solutions at major European conferences. Meet Ed, our project manager from Australia, who’s passionate about cycling and driving our international growth while promoting sustainable, secure bike storage worldwide.

In June 2025, Fietshangar installed a second bike locker for VluchtelingenWerk Nederland in Leidschendam, supporting their cycling lessons for refugees. These lessons help newcomers gain independence and integrate into Dutch society. With the growing number of participants, the additional Fietshangar now stores thirteen bikes and a stationary trainer, ensuring the expanding program has the secure bike storage it needs to continue thriving.
